DAAD Rice Research Internships in Science & Engineering-German Academic Exchange Service
RISE is a summer internship program for undergraduate students from the United States, Canada and the UK in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences and engineering. It offers unique opportunities for undergraduate students to work with research groups at universities and top research institutions across Germany for a period of 1.5 to 3 months during the summer. RISE interns are matched with doctoral students whom they assist and who serve as their mentors. The working language will be English. All participants receive stipends from the DAAD to help cover living expenses, while partner universities and research institutes provide housing assistance. Interested students should apply for a RISE internship through the DAAD. The application period for undergraduate students from the US who wish to take part in an internship during summer 2009 is December 8, 2008 to January 31, 2009. DAAD Rice Professional: Research Internships in Science & Engineering - German Academic Exchange Service
RISE professional - Research Internships in Science and Engineering - gives recent graduates, Master and PhD students in the fields of Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Geology and Physics a unique opportunity to gain practical, career-building experience working in a German company for the summer. Undergraduates who are RISE alumni or former DAAD scholarship holders are also invited to apply. All participants receive stipends from DAAD to help cover living expenses. The application period for undergraduate students from the US who wish to take part in an internship during summer 2009 is November 1, 2008 through to January 25, 2009. IAESTE: Technical Internships Abroad & Experiential Programs
The IAESTE Placement Program matches U.S. university students majoring in technical fields with paid internships abroad. Positions are available in industry, research institutes and universities, consulting firms, labs, and other work environments. Most placements are for 8-12 weeks during the summer, but fall and longer-term placements are also available. Rice University is home to an IAESTE Local Committee which qualifies our students for discountedIAESTE program placement fees and all engineering, science, or technical students are eligible to apply. The online application for the 2009 program year opens September 1, 2008 and closes January 10, 2009. IAESTE also provides opportunities for engineering, science, and technical students to participate in short-term, experiential study abroad programs that are offered year-round. The Office of Fellowships and Undergraduate Research serves as a central clearinghouse for prestigious national and international fellowship and research opportunities. The office coordinates applications for these major fellowships and undergraduate research opportunities. The office advises students on their eligibility, prepares students for award interviews, and gives feedback on applications and the interview process. Visit the office in 2nd floor of the RMC to meet with Dr. Butler and to consult binders containing successful applications from previous Rice winners. We serve undergraduates and alumni.

Humanities Research Center (HRC) Undergraduate Fellowship Program
The HRC awards fellowships to undergraduate students who have demonstrated strong potential in the humanities. The program allows them to work closely with faculty to gain meaningful research experiences during the fellowship period. The HRC organizes a speaker series for the fellowship recipients, "Big Questions and Future Directions in the Humanities," featuring Rice humanities alumni who have achieved success in non-academic careers, as well as Rice faculty who are shaping the latest approaches in their fields. The fellows are also introduced to humanities graduate students to discuss graduate-level education from the applications process to writing the dissertation.

Energy Forum
The internship program is designed to provide Rice university undergraduate students with experience working in issues of public policy and in a non-profit environment. The internships are oriented towards providing students with research experience, writing and editing opportunities, office administration experience, and experience working events and representing the Baker Institute to our sponsors. Jesse Jones Leadership Center Summer in DC Policy Research Internship Program
The James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy is seeking applicants for its 2009 Jesse Jones Leadership Center Summer in Washington DC Policy Research Internship Program. The program will provide stipends sufficient to support a select group of Rice undergraduates conducting policy-making research at government agencies, private think tanks, and NGOs in DC in summer 2009. Those accepted must be currently enrolled as full-time undergraduates through fall 2009.

The Summer Mentorship Experience (SME) is a competitive internship program through which undergraduates are paired with mentors in public, private, or nonprofit organizations. Placements include dynamic and demanding summer work experiences in a variety of industries, and are concentrated in Houston, New York City, Washington, D.C., Berlin, and Pune, India. Throughout the summer, students complete supplementary assignments that deepen their understanding of the personal and professional demands leaders face. Stipends range from $4,000-$6,000.
