Rice Office of Fellowships and Undergraduate Research

The Center for Civic Engagement is the home of community-based research and design at Rice University. The principal mission of the Center is to cultivate and expand opportunities for undergraduates to conduct research, under the guidance of Rice faculty and in collaboration with community partners, to address the array of challenges facing Houston.

The Center serves as a repository and clearinghouse of such opportunities across all academic disciplines. Center staff will assist undergraduates who are interested in Houston based inquiry in identifying courses, faculty, and community partners appropriate for their interest. Staff will also assist students and faculty in determining if proposed projects are appropriate for linking to CBL (Community-Based Learning) designated courses and in fashioning projects to fit the academic semester format. Through Leadership Rice, the Center also supports community-based research with a number of summer research grants. Interested students can learn more by visiting the Center's webpage or making an appointment with the Director of Leadership Rice.
